Ÿ In attendance: Ruth, Michelle, Teri
After a few brief technical distractions, the meeting was off to a running start. Everyone was very enthusiastic about the projects and learning to come. The following are a few of the main points discussed:
Ÿ The Group Governance was approved with an evaluation breakdown of 25/75. Our individual responsibilities were reviewed.
Ÿ Lesson 2 was briefly discussed noting that the only group responsibility appeared to be the blog reflection posting.
Ÿ It was decided that all would contribute to the blog with the understanding that the instructor may add comments, as well.
Ÿ It was thought that the group evaluation was due at the end of the semester, but we all agreed to keep up communications and give feedback to assure quality control and the most professional output.
Ÿ It was decided that all would proofread to help create a better final product.
Ÿ We determined that we could probably save “voice” on Skype.
Ÿ We discussed alternating leads for the various projects.
Ÿ Ruth reviewed Lesson 3 on Educational Institution Network Policy and Procedures. Specifics were discussed. All agreed we needed to learn how to construct Wordles. Michelle will be covering “Connectivism”, Teri will be covering “PLE/ONLE”, and Ruth will cover “Emerging Technology and Mobile Learning.” In addition, Ruth will arrange for the interview. We will then decide who will do what in the final breakdown of assignments. (We will also make sure we discuss next week the different moderator roles for the 3rd discussion time.)

Ÿ We shared a few jokes and discussion of capital letters. There was a little chit chat regarding Twitter. The meeting adjourned at 6:45 pm .
We were all excited about working together. There is a wonderful group “connection.” The network is growing.

A little early morning chit chat was followed by these main points:
Ÿ Discussed the content development assignment: network architecture, voice thread discussions, Wordle, desktop virtualization
Ÿ Easy instructions for twitter
Ÿ Discussed building our portion of the online textbook and where to put it in Wiki
Ÿ Discussed the interview. Ruth has a couple of ideas who to interview.
Ÿ We will provide a minimum of 2 citations each
Ÿ Michelle intent on finding a different angle, boy did she with her idea for an interactive concept map
Ÿ Discussed laying out the steps to create an NLE within institutional policies
Ÿ Michelle has blackboard and moodle accounts (CMSs)
Ÿ Discussed providing the reader different options with flexibility in building his/her own customized network
Ÿ We provide several examples with choices they can manipulate and try out to see what fits. They can adapt and make changes.

- We reviewed Lesson 3 Content and Development.
- We decided for our discussion posting moderation responsibilities that Ruth would follow the main topic, Michelle would cover Voice Threads, and Teri would add Virtual Desktops.
- Ruth presented a template (rubric) for group collaboration evaluation.
- Ruth suggested putting the interactive concept map to the Wiki page. Michelle agreed it could be done with a link.
- We are to discuss ideas for Michelle’s map and questions for Ruth’s interview.
- As resources, the ISTE Standards will be needed. Chih has an useful outline being searched for.
- Ruth mentioned some of the people she wants to interview and already has some lined up.

Vista Chat & iGoogle Chat
In attendance: Ruth, Michelle, Teri
Ruth and Michelle assisted Teri in utilizing iGoogle Chat and assisted her when she got bumped off.
Primarily, we worked on the Strategies Chart after reviewing the Template. We chose 6 Web 2.0 Tools to work with. Decided that each of us would contribute a minimum of two resources/references. We decided to work on the Template together, while writing our own individual papers.
We practiced adding copy to the Strategies Chart and to the Template. We chatted within iGoogle Docs. We need to make sure that we tie connectivism into our papers. We are going to concentrate on what applications each tool can do and how they tie in with networking and connectivism.
*Review our questions for the postings that we are moderating in Lesson 3. They are to be up by Sunday. We will try to post Friday am when we review.

- ŸDiscussed Content and Development Page, Ruth complimented Group 1 on a great job and suggested using theirs as a model to tie in with theme of class structure, connectivity.
- Ÿ Discussed posting the Virtual Desktop question to the class discussion board by Sunday, Feb. 20 along with the introduction. DV question reviewed, modified and finalized.
- Ÿ Discussed the need to keep track of each student’s postings and activity for the final grade.
- Ÿ Decided each of our group members would be in charge of a different thread: Ruth the Main Topic, Michelle the Voice Threads, and Teri the Desktop Virtualization.
- Ÿ Ruth completed some of her interviews. Her college is about 20% complete in DV(Desktop Virtualization). Ruth got a tour of her college layout and has seen DV in action. She mentioned that it can be spooky when the computer seems to be operating by remote control.
- Ÿ Discussed Vyew being a conferencing site and Teri added details about its features.
- Ÿ Teri mentioned the possibility of creating or dedicating a space to post thoughts, ideas, links, deadlines, future things to explore, etc. (somewhat of a working site). Michelle suggested the Blog and Ruth suggested the group space. It was decided to use the group space to work around in and when appropriate, Michelle can post the notes or finished products to the Blog.
- Ÿ Ruth to post her notes from the interview in group space when completed. Michelle can add the final interview notes, links, etc. to the blog for Chih.
- Ÿ Decided any additional questions for this lesson’s discussions could be decided at the next Friday meeting, February 25, 8:30 am. as they would not be added until the 2nd week.
- Ÿ From Siemans and our group’s personal observations: learning is improved when working in groups.
- Ÿ Discussed classes we are taking and have taken.
- Ÿ Michelle offered to email the results of working with Wordle

To: The Director of IS is very informative. He shares a lot of information with Ruth. Several inquiries were made on how knowing networking hardware/software/ policies, and procedure is relevant to educational technology.
Michelle, Ruth, and Teri met in Vyew with backup discussion in Vista Chat. We tried out the Vyew whiteboard and chat areas. We found we could draw and write in text on the whiteboard. We also discovered that it appeared only one person could talk with the talk button at a time. Ruth posted information on a couple of additional pages. We decided to review the tutorials to get more out of the use of Vyew. We could see how this would be an interesting tool to discuss in elluminate. We plan to use Prezi to work out the presentation.

Elluminate presentation
and the Unit Proposal. We discussed using the new template. Teri sent out the March meeting summaries. We will meet a few times this week to finish our Elluminate presentation on collaboration in Vyew. Michelle created a short animated video in Dvolver on Vyew and it is very clever and fun. We reviewed how we need to watch at least one other presentation. Michelle reminded us that these presentations will also be recorded for viewing at a later date. Teri reminded everyone that there is to be a survey and a list of participants. Teri will finish the narrations for the tutorial and practice working in Vyew and Elluminate. Teri reminded the group that the discussions this week will be conducted a little differently and that Chih provided a link in gmail. Michelle stated that there were other student examples in Lesson 6. The next meeting is scheduled for 9:00 am Monday, March 28. We will try to send our unit proposals to each other later tonight to review.

March 31, 6:00 pm, Elluminate Presentation
In attendance, Ruth, Michelle, Teri, and Chih (Addy showed up for a few minutes at the beginning, but not long), (emre from Turkey showed up for a few moments after the presentation - 10 hour time difference)
(Michelle and Teri met in Vyew around 2:45 pm to work on the narration.)
Ruth, Michelle, and Teri met in voice Skype to discuss the 2 page reflection paper regarding the Elluminate presentation on Vyew they gave on March 31. Michelle had posted to Google Docs the lesson and the items to follow in the report. We briefly discussed what was expected. As we desire more survey results, Teri composed 2 emails for the class, one with the invitation to view the recorded session and the other with the link to the session that Ruth provided.
It was determined that one area that needed improvement was to make sure the time slot for the presentation stayed consistent. In addition, it was determined that it would be very important in the future to make sure that there is a back-up for the presentation, such as a trouble shooting program or a second person who also could load up the presentation.
It was discussed what resources to add and tag to our 2 page reflection paper.
Next, we discussed the Unit Proposals and the final unit, noting there would also be a 10 minute presentation to the class on each unit.
Time was spent reviewing the discussion areas to see comments that Chih had posted to our original postings. Ruth and Michelle helped Teri with instructions on how to prevent the sticky notes from moving all over the page.
Teri noted that she had posted a group blog and had sent summary notes out for the March 29, 30, and 31st meetings which included the Vyew presentation.
We will give the class a chance to view our Vyew presentation and to respond with their surveys. Michelle will give it tilnoon on Sunday, April 10 to check for the results. We will meet again April 10, Sunday at 1:00 pm to complete the 2 page reflection on the Elluminate presentation and to submit it.

- Basically, we worked on the template for the chart. We completed it and Ruth sent it to use in gmail. It looked good and we were all pleased with our group collaboration. We are to write and send our renamed individual papers with the group chart to Chih.
- We reviewed a little about the intro and VD question for Lesson 3’s moderator responsibilities. Ruth agreed to post the introduction. Teri had the group help to compose the VD question. (It is now posted, by the way)
- Reminders: Blog posting, postings to the last quarter of discussion threads, analysis paper and chart, intro to Lesson 3 discussion all due Sunday night.
- Meet next Friday at 8:30 am, February 25, 2011. Visit through email, gmail, Vista mail, group space, phones, etc. if need communication before then.
As Ruth says, “We are on a roll.”

In attendance: Ruth, Michelle, Teri- Discussed elluminate presentation. Decided on March 31 from 7:15-8:15. Plan to put together the presentation in Prezi. First topic choice is Vyew. The meeting time is posted in Wiki after some technical problems with the edit button.
- We will try Vyew Monday 9:00 am, Feb. 28. If it works well, we will go with Vyew. We will also be in chat as we explore Vyew. If we do not think Vyew will work, we will decide on another networking tool. We will create flyer after we know.
- We will look at previous student training sessions on Wiki before the Monday meeting.
- Next Friday, March 4, 8:30, we plan to meet in Skype and review Content and Development.
- Ruth is getting information from NPC administration personnel. They have been very helpful. She has decided to accept a PD Sessions and Instruction offer.
- Ruth plans to pull some things together for the paper by Saturday night.
- Ruth suggested including an introduction to the institution (NPC) and its Distance Learning history.
- Research the Network Policies and Procedures to determine the institutions capabilities.
- What changes are due to modern technology, like Desktop Virtualization.
- What kind of upgrades are needed to upgrade Microwave Internet, phone line Internet, and cable Internet (NPC uses all 3), to complete Virtual Desktops.
- How do these issues relate to Distance Education? (Michelle suggests this is a discussion question.)
- At NPC, the Director of IS inquires of Ruth how DV benefits the students.
- Teri to work on DV for Content and Development. It also may fall under Network Strategies for the paper.

Visited and caught up about things, including Michelle’s trip and Ruth’s computer problems. At 9:00 we began our meeting. We talked about Elluminate and various aspects of presenting our professional development training session. We discussed how to pronounce Vyew. We also talked about Creative Commons and Prezi. We decided to work through the tutorials so that we could determine how Vyew could be used to tie into NLEs and ONLEs. We talked about interactive online desktops. We decided to work on an outline, a brief OverVyew, and ReVyew. We may want to include standards and need to provide a time for a Question and Answer period. We would like to demonstrate how this works with Connectivism.

Teri told Ruth that she had uploaded Skype the night before and gave Ruth her account name for a future invite. Teri reported that she and Michelle had worked a little on the tech doc the previous night. Ruth said she had put some references and https’ in it. Ruth and Teri commented that it was a good thing that the group got a head start on the tech paper. Teri stated appreciation to Ruth for her part in gathering the 5-Year-Plan Policies and Procedures and conducting the interviews at NPC. Good Leader!
Ruth inquired about network strategies. We confirmed that the Content and Development was due on 3/6 and the moderation grades were due on 3/9. Compliments were given to Michelle for her great job in the development of the flyer used to invite participants to our presentation in Elluminate, on Vyew, March 31 from 7:15-8:15.
We talked about the technical difficulties that Teri had in opening up the flyer and that Michelle had with adding it to Wiki. Inquired if Firefox would allow it. Ruth may submit the flyer. Michelle reminded us to add to VoiceThread today if possible. Michelle added that Chih already had set up the Elluminate room for the presentation. Chatted briefly about work and the lack thereof in addition to money making ideas. We sure would have fun working together in some capacity. We talked about past experiences and plans for the future. Teri added to Ruth’s Skype contacts.

Teri updated Java the night before but still couldn’t open boxes with red X’s in them. May need to update flash. Michelle suggested contacting NAU tech support. Ruth verified that we can use Skype and work in google docs at the same time.
Michelle leaves 6 pm Sunday night for her trip. Need to go to Blog, also. Another meeting is set for Saturday, March 5th. Michelle is going to email resources. We had fun bonding over grapes, nails, and other things. Ruth is sending a link for a survey on Twitter. We talked a little about possibly adding a concept map.

Michelle having trouble hearing. Ruth built a Vyew room for our presentation.
Met in Skype and in Vista chat. Ruth and Michelle played with a few concepts and maneuvers with Vyew in the presentation area. We explored the possibilities of how we could explain and demonstrate the use of Vyew, how to show the placements of the screens and the desktop shots.
Next meeting to be March 20th at 3:00 pm in Skype. Teri to have met with Tech support and do work on narration for the presentation.

Michelle had trouble with her headphones so she ended up texting in Skype. Ruth and Teri texted and talked as Michelle could hear them. Teri reported having met with Tech Support.

Discussed organization, ran through the pages that we had for ease in transition, discussed other ideas for pages and Question and Answer period, and how best to use the transition time where participants can practice applications in Vyew. Teri sent Survey questions to Michelle who trimmed them down, created the final survey, and sent the survey to the group. Teri answered the Survey to check the link. Michelle and Teri chatted with Chih in Elluminate in the beginning. Chih also chatted with Addy. There was discussion about when to start and that Ruth was having difficulties with her computer. Ruth tried to load the group presentation into Elluminate. Her computer was not working properly so she had to load the presentation through a different browser. Michelle and Teri continued to chat with Chih and give him the progress report. Michelle tried to recruit more attendants. The presentation began approximately 20 minutes later when Ruth was able to load the presentation. Dvolver was shown and we each gave the practiced and live narration to the pages, as the case may be. Ruth demonstrated use of the pages and Chih played with different aspects of what Vyew could offer during the “play” period. Chih asked questions about Vyew throughout the presentation and was very pleased that we had included interactive time. He could see how to use Vyew and it sounded as if this was a Web 2.0 tool that he would use as he compared it to others. He enjoyed the presentation which ended with another Dvolver. Chih thanked us and complimented us on our presentation and mentioned that the others missed out.
